The 10s AD was a decade that began on January 1, 10 AD, and ended on December 31, 19 AD. This period was part of the early Roman Empire, a time when powerful emperors ruled over a vast territory.

Who were the main leaders of the Roman Empire?

During the 10s AD, the Roman Empire was led by two important emperors.

Emperor Augustus: A long reign ends

Caesar Augustus was the first Roman Emperor. He ruled for a very long time, from 27 BC until 14 AD. Augustus was a very important leader who brought peace and stability to the Roman Empire after many years of civil war. He made many improvements to the empire, like building roads and public buildings. His rule is often called the Pax Romana, which means "Roman Peace."

Emperor Tiberius: Taking the reins

After Augustus passed away in 14 AD, his stepson, Tiberius, became the new Roman Emperor. Tiberius ruled from 14 AD to 37 AD. He continued some of Augustus's policies, but his reign was different in many ways.

Germanicus: A respected general

Germanicus was a famous Roman General during this time. He was a nephew of Emperor Tiberius and was very popular with the Roman people and the army. He led several military campaigns, especially in Germania (modern-day Germany).

What else happened in the 10s AD?

This decade was a time of transition for the Roman Empire as it moved from the long rule of Augustus to the new leadership of Tiberius. While there weren't many major wars or dramatic events, the empire continued to grow and develop.
