The 2030 Winter Paralympics, also known as the XV Winter Paralympic Games, and often called French Alps 2030, will be an exciting international sports event. It is for athletes with disabilities who compete in various winter sports. These Games are planned to happen from March 1 to March 10, 2030, in the beautiful French Alps region of France. It's a time when athletes from all over the world show their amazing skills and determination.

Choosing the Host: How the French Alps Were Selected

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has a special way to choose where the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held. This process is called "Olympic Agenda 2020." Instead of just picking one city, they now talk with different places that are interested. This is a continuous conversation to find the best possible host. A "host" can even be a whole region or several countries working together, not just one city.

The Journey to Becoming a Host

On November 29, 2023, the IOC's Executive Board suggested that the French Paralympic and Sports Committee should be considered to host the 2030 Winter Paralympics in the French Alps. This was a big step forward!

Finalizing the Host: A Conditional Agreement

The French Alps were officially chosen as the host during the 142nd IOC Session on July 24, 2024, in Paris, France. This decision was made with a special condition: the French government needed to confirm its financial support by October 2024. This extra step was needed because France was going through some political changes and elections in 2024.

In October 2024, the Prime Minister of France at that time, Michel Barnier, sent a letter to the IOC President, Thomas Bach. This letter confirmed that the French government would provide the necessary financial help. This meant the French Alps could fully prepare to host the Games.
