Imagine stepping back in time to one of Australia's oldest neighborhoods! The buildings at 7-13 Dalgety Road, Millers Point are a group of special old homes called terrace houses. They are located in Millers Point, a historic area in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

These homes are so important that they are "heritage-listed." This means they are protected because they tell us a lot about the past. People also know them as Dalgety Terrace or Dalgety Terraces. They were officially added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on April 2, 1999.

A Glimpse into the Past: The History of Dalgety Road

Millers Point is one of the very first places where European settlers built homes in Australia. It was a busy hub for ships and sea activities. These terrace houses are quite old, appearing on a map from 1854. They were likely built around the 1830s.

The NSW Department of Housing started renting out these homes in 1986. This shows how long they have been a part of the community.

What Do These Historic Homes Look Like?

These homes are a great example of early 19th-century architecture. They are quite grand and have three floors. The walls are made of stone and covered with a painted finish. The roof is made of corrugated iron, which is a common material.

The houses feature special details like windows with twelve small glass panes. There's also a central archway, or "carriageway," which might have been used for carriages in the past. Above this archway, you can see a beautiful semi-circular window called a "fan light."

Architectural Style and Features

The style of these homes is called Old Colonial Regency. This style was popular when Australia was first being settled. The buildings face Towns Place, offering a view of the area.

Inside, each home has two bedrooms. The wooden parts of the house, like doorframes and window frames, are also painted. The outside of the property is in good condition, showing how well it has been looked after over the years.

Changes Over Time: Modifications to the Homes

Like many old buildings, these houses have had some changes over the years. For example, the original window shutters have been removed. Some of the windows have been updated to more modern ones, and a few windows have even been filled in. The last time these homes were officially checked was on February 19, 1995.

Why Are These Homes So Important?

As of November 23, 2000, these large, painted stone terrace houses are a very important part of the Millers Point area. They add a lot to the look and feel of the neighborhood.

They are also part of something bigger: the Millers Point Conservation Area. This is a special zone that protects a whole group of old homes and maritime (sea-related) buildings. This area is very well-preserved, meaning it still looks much like it did long ago.

The buildings and public spaces in the conservation area date back to the 1830s. They are a great example of how people in the 19th century built and changed the landscape to suit their needs. Because of their historical value, 7-13 Dalgety Road, Millers Point was officially added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on April 2, 1999.
