The Story of the A. H. Allyn House
Built in the Queen Anne Style
This beautiful, three-story house was built in 1885. It was designed in the popular Queen Anne style. This style was common for homes built in the late 1800s. Queen Anne houses often have towers, turrets, patterned shingles, and wrap-around porches. They look a bit like a fairytale castle!
Who Lived There?
The A. H. Allyn House was originally built for Alexander Allyn and his family. Imagine living in such a grand house over 130 years ago!
What Happened Next?
Over the years, the house changed hands and had different uses. It wasn't always a family home. For a while, it served as a nursing home, which is a place where older people live and receive care. Later, it even became a furniture store!
In 1984, Joe Johnson and Ron Markwell bought the house. They helped bring it back to life and preserve its history.
