About the Museum
The Zuni tribe started planning this museum many years ago, in the 1960s and 1970s. It took some time to get everything ready. In 1992, the museum officially became a non-profit organization. This means it works for the public good and not to make money. It began with one room showing how the Zuni people lived. The building where the museum is now used to be an old trading post. It was known as the Hebadina Building.
Exploring Zuni History
One of the main exhibits at the museum is called "The Hawikku: 'Echoes From Our Past'". This exhibit teaches visitors about the Zuni people's creation stories. It also covers their journeys and the last 500 years of their history. You can see many photographs from the 1800s up to today. These pictures show what Zuni life has been like through different times.
Traditional Zuni Gardens
Outside the museum, you can find traditional Zuni waffle gardens. These unique gardens were created through a partnership. The museum worked with the Zuni Farmers Co-operative to bring them to life. These gardens show traditional Zuni farming methods.
Zuni Festival of Arts and Culture
Every May, the museum helps host a fun event. It's called the Zuni Festival of Arts and Culture. The museum works with the Museum of Northern Arizona to put on this festival. It's a great way to celebrate Zuni art, traditions, and culture.
