ABC Dunhill Records was a record company formed in 1966. It was created when ABC Records bought another company called Dunhill Records. This made ABC Dunhill a bigger player in the music world.

Growing the Music Family

ABC Dunhill Records continued to grow by buying other record companies. On May 23, 1973, they purchased several labels from a person named Don Robey. These included popular labels like Duke Records, Peacock Records, Back Beat Records, and Song Bird Records.

In 1974, ABC Dunhill bought even more music labels. They acquired the Famous Music record labels from a company called Gulf and Western. This deal brought Dot Records and Blue Thumb Records into the ABC Dunhill family.

Sharing Music with the World

When ABC Dunhill bought Famous Music, they also got an important deal with Sire Records. This deal was about distribution. Distribution means getting music from the record company to stores and listeners.

Through Sire Records, ABC Dunhill helped distribute the very first songs by a famous punk band called the Ramones. This helped the Ramones' music reach many fans. Later, in 1977, Sire Records changed its distribution partner to Warner Bros.. A year after that, Sire Records was sold to Warner Bros.
