"A Christmas for Shacktown" is a 32-page Disney comics story. It was written and drawn by Carl Barks. The story first appeared in Four Color #367 in January 1952. It tells how Donald Duck tries to raise money. He wants to throw a Christmas party for children in a poor area called Shacktown.

The Story of Shacktown Christmas

This comic book story starts with Donald's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, walking through Shacktown. This is the poorest part of Duckburg. They feel sad as they see how people live there. Children their age wear old clothes and look tired. Many also look hungry or sick. The nephews feel like they need to help these children. They want to bring some happiness to them. So, the Ducks decide to plan a big Christmas party.

Getting Help for the Party

The nephews ask Daisy Duck for help. She is the leader of a local ladies' group. They also ask their friends from the Junior Woodchucks. But soon, they realize that raising money is very hard. Even with all their efforts, they are still fifty dollars short.

Donald Asks Uncle Scrooge

Donald Duck thinks of asking his rich Uncle Scrooge for the money. Scrooge does not want to just give them the money. However, he offers to help in another way. He says he will give twenty-five dollars if Donald can raise twenty-five dollars himself.

Donald soon learns that asking for money during the holidays is tough. Everyone has their own extra costs for Christmas. He tries to trick his uncle into giving the money. But he cannot do it. Finally, he asks his lucky cousin, Gladstone Gander, for help. Donald manages to get his twenty-five dollars.

The Lost Money

When Donald gets to his uncle's money bin, Scrooge looks shocked. Scrooge tells him it is too late. Donald gets angry and opens the vault door. Inside, the floor has broken, and all the money has fallen. It is now lost in caves under Duckburg. Donald is still twenty-five dollars short. He also has to take care of a very sad Uncle Scrooge.

Finding the Treasure

Huey, Dewey, and Louie remember something. They once explored the Shacktown area. They found a cave that might lead to the lost money. In the cave, the ducks find a small hole made by a beaver. This hole leads to the money. But they cannot make the hole bigger. If they do, the cave might fall apart. Then they would never get the money back.

The boys have a clever idea. They bring a toy train to get the money. Scrooge promises that they can keep the first load of money they bring out. It does not matter how much it is. They manage to get a huge pile of bills. Scrooge is so surprised that he faints!

Using this money, the people of Shacktown have a wonderful Christmas party. Scrooge, however, stays in the cave. He complains that he will have to wait 272 years for the toy train to bring out all his money.
