A dzsungel könyve (which means The Jungle Book in English) is a super popular Hungarian musical! It's based on the famous book The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. This musical brings the jungle adventures of Mowgli and his animal friends to life on stage.
The music for the show was created by László Dés. The lyrics, which are the words to the songs, were written by Péter Geszti. The story for the stage was adapted by Pál Békés.
The musical first opened on January 28, 1996. It premiered at the Pesti Színház in Budapest, Hungary. The show was put on by the Comedy Theatre of Budapest company. Géza Hegedűs D. was the director who brought it all together.
A dzsungel könyve was a big hit right away! It won the Hungarian Theatre Critics Award for Best Musical in 1996. The original show was so popular that it reached its 1,000th performance in 2013. That's a lot of shows! It has also been performed in many other theatres across Hungary.
