Aaron James's Basketball Journey

Aaron James was a tall player, standing 6 feet 8 inches. He played as a small forward for the New Orleans Jazz. The Jazz picked him in the 1974 NBA draft. This means they chose him to join their team after he finished college. He was their very first player ever chosen in a draft!

College and Draft Day

Aaron went to Grambling State University before joining the NBA. In the 1974 NBA draft, he was the 10th pick in the second round. This was a big moment for him. Another league, the ABA, also wanted him. The Utah Stars picked him in their draft that same year. But Aaron chose to play in the NBA.

Playing for the New Orleans Jazz

Aaron James played for the New Orleans Jazz from 1974 to 1979. During his time with the team, he played 356 games. He was a strong scorer, averaging about 10.8 points per game. He also helped his team by getting about 4.1 rebounds per game. Rebounds are when a player grabs the ball after a shot is missed.

Aaron's best season was in 1977-1978. He played in 80 games that year, which was the most in his career. He also scored his highest average points per game, with 12.2. He was a key player for the Jazz during those years.

Beyond the NBA

After his time with the New Orleans Jazz, Aaron James also played basketball in other leagues. He played for teams like Antonini Siena in 1980 and the U/Tex Wranglers in 1980. Later, he even played for the Manila Beer Brewmasters in 1985.

Aaron also became a coach. He coached the Grambling State basketball team from 1989 to 1995. This showed his continued love for the sport.
