Aaron James (born October 5, 1952) is a former American professional basketball player. He played as a power forward and small forward. Aaron James spent his entire five-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the New Orleans Jazz.

Aaron James's Basketball Career
Aaron James was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up loving basketball and played for Walter L. Cohen High School. After high school, he went on to play college basketball at Grambling State University from 1970 to 1974. He was a talented player, standing 6 feet 8 inches tall.
Joining the NBA
In 1974, Aaron James was chosen in the 1974 NBA draft by the New Orleans Jazz. He was their very first player ever picked in the draft! This was a big moment for the team and for Aaron. He was the 10th player chosen in the second round of the draft.
He was also selected by another league, the ABA, in their draft that same year. However, he chose to play in the NBA.
Playing for the New Orleans Jazz
Aaron James played for the New Orleans Jazz for five seasons, from 1974 to 1979. During his time with the Jazz, he played in 356 games. He was known for his scoring and rebounding. On average, he scored 10.8 points and grabbed 4.1 rebounds per game. He was an important part of the team during its early years.
After the NBA
After his time in the NBA, Aaron James continued to play basketball professionally. He played for teams in other countries, like Antonini Siena in Italy and the Manila Beer Brewmasters in the Philippines. He also played for the U/Tex Wranglers.
Later in his career, Aaron James returned to Grambling State University. He became a coach for the men's basketball team from 1989 to 1995. He also served as the athletic director for the university.
