Aarón Castellanos is a small town, or municipality, located in the General López Department of Santa Fe Province. This province is in the northeastern part of Argentina. The town is about 449 kilometers (279 miles) away from Santa Fe, which is the capital city of the province.

How Aarón Castellanos Was Founded

Aarón Castellanos was officially founded on February 21, 1911.

The idea for the town started earlier, on March 23, 1903. A wealthy Argentinian woman named Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena wanted to create a new town. She told her representative, Angel Leanes, to set it up near the Soler train stop. This stop was on the Buenos Aires and Pacific Railway line. She decided to name the new town Aarón Castellanos. This was to honor Aarón Castellanos, who helped start the first colony in Santa Fe called Esperanza.

About a month later, on April 29, 1903, the bishop of Santa Fe approved Anchorena's plan. She wanted to build a special religious house, called a missionary convent, in the new town. At that time, the Franciscan religious group was very active in the area. They not only helped with religious duties but also managed the building materials Anchorena sent for the convent. Later, a church and a hospital were also built.

Why the Name Aarón Castellanos?

The town is named after Aarón Castellanos. He is known as the "father of European emigration" in Argentina. This means he played a big part in encouraging people from Europe to move and settle in Argentina.
