Abdallah ibn Muhammad ibn Maslama, also known as Ibn al-Aftas, was an important leader in a region called Al-Andalus. This was a part of what is now Spain and Portugal. He was born around the year 1004 and died around 1060.
Abdallah was the person who started the Aftasid dynasty. This was a ruling family that controlled the taifa of Badajoz, a small kingdom in Al-Andalus.

Abdallah was a Berber from the Miknasa group, originally from the area near Córdoba. Berbers are a group of people native to North Africa.
Rise to Power
Abdallah ibn Al-Aftas first worked as a vizier. A vizier was like a chief minister or a top advisor to a ruler. He worked for Sabur al-Khatib. Sabur was a former slave who became a prince in the "lower march" of the old Caliphate of Córdoba. The Caliphate of Córdoba was a large Islamic state that ruled Al-Andalus.
When Prince Sabur died, Abdallah ibn Al-Aftas took control. He made Badajoz the capital city of his new kingdom. This kingdom was centered around the Guadiana River and stretched into central Portugal.
A Skilled Leader
Abdallah was known as a very good military leader. He was so successful that people called him "Al-Mansur," which means "the victorious." He led his kingdom well until his death around 1060 AD.
