Abderrahmane Meziani (born May 12, 1942 – died June 2, 2016) was a talented Algerian football player. He was known for playing as a forward, which means he was one of the main attackers on the team, trying to score goals. Meziani spent most of his career playing for USM Alger, a famous club in Algeria.
His Football Journey
Abderrahmane Meziani was born in Algiers, Algeria, on May 12, 1942. He started playing football at a young age. In 1955, he joined MC Alger in a youth category. He also played for another club called ASPTT Algiers.
Later, he moved to AS Saint-Eugène, which was a very important club in Algiers at that time. After Algeria became independent in 1962, Meziani, who was 20 years old, joined USM Alger. He stayed with this club for the rest of his playing career, becoming a true legend there.
Playing for Algeria
On January 6, 1963, Meziani was chosen to play for the Algerian national team for the very first time. It was a friendly match against the Bulgarian team.
He scored a goal in the 80th minute of the game. This goal helped his team win their first official match. It was a great start to his international career!
Later Life
In 2006, Meziani became very ill. He had a serious health problem that affected the left side of his body. After some time, he was moved to France to get special medical care.
He slowly got better after a long period of recovery. However, he needed to use a wheelchair after that. Abderrahmane Meziani passed away on June 2, 2016, in Algiers, after a long battle with his illness.
