History of Academy
How Academy Got Its Name
The small community of Academy got its start a long time ago. A post office was opened there in 1899. This meant people living nearby could send and receive mail. The name "Academy" came from a special school called the Ward Academy. This school used to be in the area.
What Remains Today
Today, Academy is a very quiet place. Most of what was once there is gone. In the 21st century, you would only find a small one-room elementary school building and two farms. These are the last remaining signs of the community that once was.
