What Does the Achatinella Viridans Snail Look Like?
The shell of the Achatinella viridans snail is quite unique. It's shaped like a long cone and doesn't have a hole at the bottom. This snail's shell is also "dextral," which means if you hold it with the tip pointing up, the opening will be on the right side.
Shell Features
The shell has five whorls, which are like rounded spirals that stack up. You might also notice a small groove just below where these spirals join together.
The main color of the shell is green, often mixed with lighter streaks. The opening of the shell, called the aperture, is somewhat oval-shaped. Inside its edge, you'll see a pretty pink color. The very edge of this opening, known as the lip, is a bit thicker than the rest of the shell.
Size of the Snail
- The shell is about 19.2 millimeters (or 0.75 inches) tall.
- It measures about 12.0 millimeters (or 0.47 inches) wide.
