History of Aconchi
A place called San Pedro Aconchi was started in 1639. It was founded by two Jesuit missionaries, Bartolomé Castaños and Pedro Pantoja. Missionaries were people who traveled to new places to teach about their religion.
Geography and Economy
Aconchi is located about 609 meters (nearly 2,000 feet) above sea level. The land around Aconchi is mostly mountainous. This makes it hard to grow crops. Because of this, the main way people make a living here is by raising cattle.
The Sonora River flows through the municipality from north to south. However, the amount of water in the river changes a lot.
Getting There
Aconchi is on the main road that connects Hermosillo, the capital city of Sonora, with Cananea. This makes it easy to travel to and from the city.
Fun Things to Do: Hot Springs
A few kilometers north of Aconchi, there is a special place called Aguas Termales de Aconchi. This is a spa with natural hot springs. The main attraction is "El Agua Caliente de Aconchi." It has warm water that comes from the ground. This water can reach a temperature of 59 °C (138.2 °F). Many people believe these waters have healing properties.
This spot is great for relaxing. It does not have a hotel, but you can camp there. Besides the swimming pool, there is a restaurant and an area where you can have barbecues.
