Acqua Panna is a well-known brand of bottled water from Italy. It is one of the largest bottled water brands sold around the world. The name "Acqua Panna" comes from a place called Villa Panna. This villa is located in the beautiful hills of Tuscany, Italy. That is where the natural spring, which provides the water, was first found.

People started bottling this water in 1880. Acqua Panna was also the first still (meaning not fizzy or carbonated) water to be sold in plastic bottles within Italy.

Where Does Acqua Panna Come From?

The special spring for Acqua Panna water is located very high up. It is about 1,128 meters (3,700 feet) high in the Apennine Mountains of Tuscany. This area is north of the famous city of Florence.

A Brief History of Acqua Panna

The Medici Family's Private Spring

Long ago, in the 1500s, a very powerful family called the Medicis lived in Florence. They owned the spring where Acqua Panna comes from. They even fenced it off to keep it as their own private property. This was important because the Medici family wanted fresh, clean drinking water. Many other springs back then were not clean and could be unsafe.

Who Owns Acqua Panna Today?

Today, the Acqua Panna brand is part of a company called Sanpellegrino S.p.A. This company is a subsidiary of Nestlé, a very large food and drink company. Acqua Panna water is sold in many places, including Europe and North America.
