Ada Gladys Killins (born 1901, died 1963) was a talented Canadian artist and a dedicated teacher. She is best known for her beautiful landscape paintings, especially those made with watercolour.

Early Life and Education

Ada Gladys Killins was born in 1901 in a place called Castor township, which is in Lincoln County, Ontario. Her parents were Robert Killins and Rachel Swick.

She went to a special school to become a teacher. In 1924, she started teaching art at Memorial School in Niagara Falls.

Even while teaching, Ada loved learning more about art. For many summers, she took art classes at the Ontario College of Art. She also learned from famous artists like Franz Johnston. Later, between 1935 and 1938, she took summer classes with Carl Schaefer near Lake Couchiching.

Becoming a Full-Time Artist

In 1947, Ada Gladys Killins decided to focus completely on her art. She stopped teaching and moved to a cabin near Orangeville to paint full-time.

Exhibitions and Recognition

Ada was a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour. This group helped artists who used watercolour to show their work. She often displayed her paintings with them.

Her art was shown in important places:

  • In 1939, her work was part of the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.
  • One of her paintings was even chosen for the Canadian display at the 1939 New York World's Fair. This was a very big event where countries showed off their achievements.
  • In 1942, fifteen of her paintings were featured in an exhibition called "Four Canadian Painters" at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Ada Gladys Killins is most famous for her amazing landscape paintings. She often used watercolour paints to capture the beauty of nature.

She passed away in Castleton, Ontario, in 1963.
