Adam Mensah Osei Afriyie, born on August 4, 1965, is a British politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Windsor from 2005 until 2024. He is a member of the Conservative Party.

Where Was Adam Afriyie Born?
Adam Afriyie was born on 4 August 1965 in Wimbledon, London. His father was from Ghana and his mother was English. He grew up in Peckham, a part of London.
What Was His Schooling Like?
He went to Oliver Goldsmith Primary School. Later, he attended Addey and Stanhope School. In 1987, he earned a degree in agricultural economics from Wye College.
Adam Afriyie has seven half-siblings and one brother. He has spoken about growing up with his mother, Gwen, who raised them alone.
Business Career
Adam Afriyie had a successful career in business before becoming an MP.
- He started an IT support company called Connect Support Services in 1993.
- He owned a large part of DeHavilland, a company that watched political news. This company was sold in 2005.
- He was also a finalist for a special award for entrepreneurs in 2003.
Afriyie joined the Conservative Party in 1990. He also served as a governor for the Museum of London. From 2003 to 2005, he was a director at Policy Exchange, which is a research group that helps shape ideas.

Parliamentary Career
In the 2005 general election, Adam Afriyie was elected as the MP for Windsor. He was the first black MP for the Conservative Party. He gave his first speech in Parliament on May 23, 2005.
In Parliament, he was part of the Science and Technology Select Committee. He also joined the Children, Schools and Families select committee. From 2010 to 2017, he was the chairman of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology.
Re-elections and Key Votes
Afriyie was re-elected as MP for Windsor in the 2010, 2015, 2017, and 2019 general elections.
In February 2013, he voted against a bill that would allow same-sex marriage. He was concerned about religious freedom.
In November 2013, Afriyie suggested a change to a bill to have an early public vote on whether the UK should stay in the European Union. He believed the public wanted an earlier vote.
In December 2014, he voted against a bill that would make large companies share information about pay differences between men and women.
Afriyie supported the UK leaving the European Union in the 2016 referendum. He believed it would make the UK safer and more successful economically. He continued to support Brexit in Parliament.
In July 2022, Adam Afriyie announced that he would not run for re-election in the 2024 general election.
Personal Life
Adam Afriyie married Tracy-Jane (née Newell) in August 2005. She is a barrister.
He owns a house in Westminster and "The Priory" in Old Windsor.
