About Adam Buck
Adam Buck was born in Castle Street, Cork, Ireland. He became a very skilled miniature painter in the 1780s while still in Ireland. In 1795, he moved permanently to London. He lived in different places there, including Piccadilly and Soho.
Many important people hired him to paint their portraits. These included famous opera singer Angelica Catalani, King George IV, and the Duke of York.
Adam Buck was very important in the art world during the Regency period in England. He created pictures showing the fashion of the time. He also painted everyday family scenes and scenes inspired by ancient Greece. He loved the "Greek Revival" style. Because of this, you can see ancient Greek furniture, vases, and even hairstyles in his paintings. He even collected ancient Greek vases himself!
He also taught painting to others. He showed over 170 of his miniature and full-length portraits at the Royal Academy in London. This was between 1795 and 1833. He passed away in London in 1833.
