Adam Crooks (born May 3, 1824 – died December 15, 1874) was a Christian minister who belonged to the Wesleyan Methodist church. He was a strong supporter of ending slavery in the United States.

A Leader Against Slavery
Adam Crooks was a brave minister who believed that slavery was wrong. He worked hard to help free enslaved people. He was part of the Wesleyan Methodist Connection, a group of Christians who were also against slavery.
Building Churches for Freedom
In October 1847, Rev. Crooks went to North Carolina. He started a new church for Christians in the South who also opposed slavery. Even though it was winter, they began building the church right away.
- This first church was built in Alamance County.
- It was named "Freedom's Hill Church."
- This was the very first Wesleyan Methodist church built in the Southern United States.
Today, Freedom's Hill Church has been updated and moved to the campus of Southern Wesleyan University.
Growing the Movement
Rev. Crooks was very successful in his first year. He helped start eight new churches. These churches were in North Carolina and Virginia. Together, they had 140 members who joined the fight against slavery.

Rev. Crooks believed in helping others and making society better. He thought it was important to stand up for what was right.

He also spoke about the importance of making good choices for your health. He encouraged people to live a life that was free from things that could harm them. He believed everyone should try their best to influence others to make healthy choices too.
