Address facts for kids
An address is a special way to find or talk to someone. It helps people know where you live or how to send you messages online. There are two main kinds: a postal address for letters and packages, and an e-mail address for sending digital messages. When you fill out forms, you often need to give your name, address, and phone number. This makes it easy for others to get in touch with you.
What is a Postal Address?
A postal address tells people where a house or building is located. It's the information you write on a letter or package so it can be delivered to the right person. Sometimes, instead of a house, it can be a Post Office Box.
Here are some examples of how a postal address looks:
- Example in England:
:Mr John Smith :132, My Street, :Bigtown BG23 4YZ :England
- Example in the U.S.:
:Mr John Smith :132, My Street, :Kingston, New York 12401 :United States
Understanding Email Addresses
An email address is used to send someone an e-mail message online. It has two main parts. First, there's a username. This is followed by the name of the email provider. The "at" sign (@) always separates these two parts.
For example:
- john@gmail.com
- horseycrazy@yahoo.com
- larry.smith@msn.com
- example50150@domain.eu
The username part can use letters, numbers, and a few special symbols. However, it cannot have spaces. The provider part can use letters and numbers, but no special symbols or spaces. Some email providers might have extra rules for the username. For instance, Gmail does not allow underscores in the username.
