The community has streets, private homes, and even some townhouses. They also share a community well for water, gardens where they grow food, and their own sewage treatment plant.

History of Adelphi

The Adelphi Community was built by people who were part of the Adelphi Organization. This group was started in 1976 by a person named Richard Kieninger.

The Ideas Behind Adelphi

Richard Kieninger had studied something called Lemurian Philosophy in the 1950s. This philosophy teaches about love and living in a positive way. In 1963, Kieninger wrote a book called The Ultimate Frontier. This book explained the ideas of Lemurian Philosophy.

Earlier versions of the book also included some predictions that Kieninger said came from secret groups. For example, he wrote about a big worldwide event happening in 1999 and natural disasters in 2000. He said that after these events, a new land would appear in the Pacific Ocean, where a "Nation of God" would be built. When these events didn't happen on the dates he mentioned, he explained that he had misunderstood the predictions. The book was updated in 2000 by the Adelphi Organization. It still talks about general predictions of big changes for the world, but without specific dates.

Richard Kieninger lived in Adelphi until he passed away in 2002.

What is Adelphi's Purpose?

The Adelphi Organization's website explains why the community was founded. It says that the organization was created to help set up the ideas and ways of life that would be used in the "Nation of God." The community of Adelphi, Texas, is meant to be a first example of this future city. The people who live there have taken on the job of teaching future generations about the Lemurian Philosophy. They believe it's their role to survive big world changes and then quickly rebuild a highly cultured Lemurian civilization.

Only members of The Adelphi Organization can live in the community. This organization also takes care of all the community's daily matters.

Other Communities Like Adelphi

The Adelphi Community has a "sister community" in Stelle, Illinois. This community was started in 1973, also based on Richard Kieninger's writings. However, since 1983, anyone has been able to live in Stelle. In 1985, the Stelle community decided to no longer follow Kieninger's specific teachings. The Stelle Community has a population of 101 people.
