The museum is located in a beautifully restored house. This house is built in the old Georgian style and looks out over Digby Harbour. It's known as the Woodrow/Dakin House.

History of the Museum

The Old House Becomes a Library

The Woodrow/Dakin House is one of the oldest buildings in Digby. In 1968, the Digby Library Association bought this historic house. It then became the very first library for the town.

From Library to Museum

A group of people who loved history started a historical society at the library. In 1972, they opened a small display of historical items. This was the beginning of the museum! In 1977, the historical society took over the building. The library moved to a bigger place in 1980. After that, the museum used the whole building to show its collections.

Who Was Admiral Digby?

The museum is named after a famous person called Admiral Robert Digby. He was a Royal Navy officer. In 1783, he brought many Loyalist settlers to the town. These were people who stayed loyal to Britain during the American Revolution.
