The Adoration of the Name of God (also known as The Glory) is a famous painting by Francisco Goya. He painted this large picture in 1772 on the ceiling of a church. It is a fresco, which means it was painted directly onto wet plaster. You can find it in the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Zaragoza, Spain.
Goya's Big Project

In 1771, Francisco Goya came back to Spain after traveling in Italy. He had learned a lot about art there. Soon after, he got an important job. He was asked to decorate a part of the Basílica del Pilar church. His task was to paint a scene showing the "adoration of the name of God."
This project was a big chance for Goya. It let him show off his skills in fresco painting. He did a great job, proving he was a master of this difficult art style.
What Can You See in the Painting?
This painting shows a typical style of religious art from the late 1700s. In the picture, you can see groups of angels. They are arranged on both sides, looking towards the center.
The most important part in the middle is a symbol of the Christian Trinity. This is an equilateral triangle. Inside the triangle, you can see the Tetragrammaton. This is the special Hebrew name for God.
Goya planned the painting so that lines seem to cross in the middle, forming an "X" shape. This makes the picture feel calm and balanced.
How the Painting Has Changed
Artists often make sketches before they paint a big work. Goya also made many drawings for this fresco. These early drawings show that he first planned for more dramatic colors and movement. The final painting on the ceiling looks a bit different.
The fresco has been repaired several times over the years. It was restored in 1887, 1947, 1967, and 1991. These repairs might have changed how the painting looks today compared to when Goya first finished it.
