Adrian Davis: Rugby League Journey
Early Life and Junior Rugby
Adrian Davis was born in Kempsey, New South Wales. He started playing rugby league as a junior with the Kempsey Dragons. Later, he went to Granville Boys High School. After that, he was signed by the Canterbury Bulldogs. He played for their Under-20s teams, which are for younger players.
Adrian also plays in a big yearly tournament called the NSW Koori Knockout. This is a special competition for Indigenous Australian rugby league teams. He has won two titles with the Newcastle Yowies team in this tournament.
Playing for Different Teams
Time with the Knights
In 2010, Adrian played for the Newcastle Knights' Under-20s team, known as the Holden Cup back then. From 2011 to 2013, he moved up to play for their NSW Cup side. The NSW Cup is a league just below the main professional competition. When he wasn't playing for the NSW Cup team, he played for Central Newcastle in the local Newcastle competition.
Playing for the Dolphins
In 2014, Adrian joined the Redcliffe Dolphins. He played for them in the Intrust Super Cup. This is a major rugby league competition in Queensland, Australia. During this time, he also had the honour of being captain. He led a special team called the First Nation Goanna's. They played against his old NSW Cup team for three seasons.
With the Penrith Panthers
In 2015, Adrian signed a one-year contract with the Penrith Panthers. This was a "second-tier" deal, meaning he would play for their reserve teams. He played in the 2015 Auckland Nines tournament. This is a shorter, faster version of rugby league. However, he did not play any games for the Panthers' top-level team that season.
Touring with the Yowies
Adrian did not have a club for the 2016 season. But he was chosen to go on a tour to the United Kingdom. He played with the Newcastle Yowies. This is an invitational team made up of Indigenous Australians from the Hunter Region. On their tour, they played against professional teams. They lost to the London Broncos but won a game against the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
Representative Games
Adrian has also been chosen to play for special representative teams:
- New South Wales Combined High Schools in 2008
- NSW Cup Residents in 2013
- First Nation Goannas in 2014
