George Adrian Horridge, born on December 12, 1927, is a well-known Australian neurobiologist. A neurobiologist is a scientist who studies the nervous system, including the brain and nerves. He was also a professor at the Australian National University. He received special honors, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.

Adrian Horridge was born in Sheffield, England. His family had a long history of running a business that made things like knife handles. Later, his father started a successful business selling and repairing motorbikes.
His Education
Adrian Horridge went to King Edward VII School. In 1946, he earned a scholarship to attend St John's College, Cambridge. He later received his PhD from the University of Cambridge. In 1953, he became a Fellow in Chemistry at St. John's.
His Career
From 1960 to 1969, Professor Horridge was the Director of the Gatty Marine Laboratory at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
Then, from 1969 to 1993, he became a professor at the Research School of Biological Sciences at the Australian National University. After that, he became an Emeritus Professor, which means he retired but still holds an honored title. He lives in Yarralumla, Canberra, Australia.
Awards and Recognition
In 2001, Adrian Horridge was given a Centenary Medal. This award recognized his important contributions to biological sciences in Australia.
In 2019, a very large virus was named after him. It is called Megaklothovirus horridgei. This shows how much his work is respected in the scientific community.
His Family
Adrian Horridge was married for 59 years to Audrey, who passed away in 2013. She was also a university graduate and worked to help overseas students in Australia. She also helped with city planning. Adrian Horridge has a son and four daughters.
