Advolly Richmond didn't start her career in gardening. She first worked in the car industry. However, she decided to change paths and learn all about plants and gardening, which is called horticulture.

She joined a special program called the Work and Retrain As a Gardener Scheme (WRAG). This program helps people learn how to become professional gardeners. After finishing her training, she went on to study at the University of Bristol. There, she earned a master's degree in Garden History. Before joining WRAG, she also earned a certificate in horticulture from the Royal Horticultural Society.
