Aeronca Museum facts for kids
The Aeronca Museum is like a special online library and museum all about Aeronca planes. Aeronca was a big American company that made light airplanes from 1928 to 1951. The museum's main goal is to save and share everything about Aeronca aircraft. They want to make sure this important history is available for everyone, especially for future generations. It aims to be the best place to find information about Aeronca planes.
The Museum's Story
The idea for the Aeronca Museum started with Todd Trainor. He is an expert in fixing old airplanes, especially Aeronca ones. His father, Tom Trainor, was also a well-known Aeronca restoration expert.
In 2011, a group of people formed a board and applied to become a special non-profit organization. This means they are a public service that helps share information.
Currently, the museum's main office and some of its airplane parts are in Brighton, Michigan. Some of these parts are being fixed up at hangars at the Brighton Airport.
Today, the museum mostly works as a huge online library. It has thousands of documents, drawings, and technical guides about Aeronca aircraft. They share this information on their website. Some information is for sale, and some is free for people who own or love Aeronca planes.
Planes and Treasures
The museum has some amazing aircraft projects. These include three complete Aeronca K planes, one of which is a seaplane (a plane that can land on water). They also have one Aeronca TAC that can fly. There are also parts of other planes, like a C-3 and a KCA, which are being restored.
Besides the planes, the museum has over 10,000 other Aeronca items and papers. They have collected many important documents, drawings, and manuals. These came from Aeronca itself, its successor company, and from people who love Aeronca planes. Many of these resources are shared online through their website, aeroncamuseum.org.
