The Afon Alun is a small but important river located in the Vale of Glamorgan, which is in south Wales. It is a tributary (meaning a smaller stream that flows into a larger one) of the Ewenny River. The Afon Alun joins the Ewenny River to the south of the town of Bridgend.
The Afon Alun's Journey
The Afon Alun begins its journey when two smaller streams come together. These streams are called the Stembridge Brook and the Llandow Brook. They meet and combine near the village of Llandow.
After these two streams join, the river flows mainly towards the north-west. It follows a path right next to the Vale of Glamorgan railway. This journey continues until the Afon Alun meets the Ewenny River. This meeting point is just a little bit upstream from a famous old place called Ogmore Castle.
The Afon Alun also has its own smaller stream that flows into it. This is called the Colwinston Brook. It joins the Afon Alun near the village of Colwinston.
