Afton's History
Afton has an interesting past, especially with its mail service and railways.
Mail and Name Changes
A post office is where people send and receive mail. Afton had a post office that first opened in 1849. When it first started, it was called "California." Later, in 1865, its name was changed to "Afton." The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed in 1912.
The Railroad Connection
Besides the post office, Afton was also an important stop on a railway line. This was the Cincinnati & Eastern Railroad. Trains would stop here, connecting Afton to other places. Today, part of that old railway line is still used by the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad (CCET).
