Afzal ul-Mulk (born in 1867, died in 1892) was a ruler known as the Mehtar of Chitral. Chitral was a special kind of state, like a small kingdom, in what was then British India. He became the Mehtar after his father, Aman ul-Mulk, passed away. Afzal ul-Mulk took the throne even though his older brother, Nizam ul-Mulk, was next in line. His time as ruler was very short, lasting just over two months. His rule ended when he was killed by his uncle, Sher Afzal.
Who Was Afzal ul-Mulk?
Afzal ul-Mulk was born on January 1, 1867, in Chitral. He was a member of the Katoor Dynasty, a powerful family that ruled the region. His father was the respected Mehtar Aman ul-Mulk.
His Short Rule
After his father's death, Afzal ul-Mulk quickly took control of Chitral. This was a surprise because his older brother, Nizam ul-Mulk, was expected to become the next ruler. Afzal ul-Mulk's reign began in 1892.
The End of His Reign
Afzal ul-Mulk's time as Mehtar was very brief. He ruled for only two months and seven days. In November 1892, his uncle, Sher Afzal, ended his rule. Afzal ul-Mulk died in Chitral in 1892.
