Agamids are a large group of lizards. They belong to a special family called Agamidae. These lizards are found in many parts of the world. You can find them living naturally in Africa, Asia, and Australia. A few types also live in southern Europe.
What Do Agamids Look Like?
Agamids usually have bodies covered in scales. They have strong, well-developed legs. Their tails are often quite long. Most agamids are about 10 to 15 centimeters (4 to 6 inches) long, not counting their tail. Their tails can be even longer, around 20 to 30 centimeters (8 to 12 inches). However, this family has many different kinds of lizards, so their sizes can vary a lot!
How Many Kinds of Agamids Are There?
The Agamidae family is very diverse. There are about 350 different types, or species, of agamids. These species are grouped into about 50 different genera. A genus is a smaller group of similar species. This shows how many different kinds of agamids exist around the world.
