Agnes Clara Tatham (born January 18, 1893 – died September 13, 1972) was a talented English painter. Her beautiful artworks are well-known in the art world. Some of her paintings have even been sold at famous art auctions!

Agnes Tatham's Life

Agnes was born on January 18, 1893. She was the fourth of five children. Her parents were Meaburn Talbot Tatham and Susan Clara Miers. Agnes grew up at Northcourt House in Abingdon, England. Her family called her 'Widdy'. For a short time in March 1901, she lived with her mother's family. This was at Eden Cottage in Beckenham, London.

Her Art Education

Agnes loved art and studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art. There, she became good friends with Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale. Eleanor was an art teacher at the school. She taught watercolour painting. Eleanor was known for her unique art style. It was similar to the "Pre-Raphaelite" artists. These artists focused on detailed, colorful paintings.

Agnes also studied at the Vicat Cole School of Art. From 1915 to 1921, she was a student at the Royal Academy Schools. She earned many awards there for her paintings. Agnes mostly painted using oil and tempera paints. Her artworks were shown in many exhibitions. She also drew pictures for several children's books.

Later Life and Legacy

Around 1950, Agnes moved to Kensington, London. She lived there until 1970. She started a new art school with Elsie Gledstanes and Alice Burton. It was called the Unique School for Children’s Art. This school helped young artists learn.

In 1970, Agnes moved back to Northcourt House. She lived there until she passed away on September 13, 1972. She was 79 years old. Agnes Clara Tatham left behind many beautiful paintings. She also helped inspire young artists through her school.
