Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Agricola is a small, unincorporated community located in Coffey County, Kansas, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Agricola is found along Old Highway 50 and 27th Road.

History of Agricola

Agricola has a simple but interesting history, mainly connected to transportation and communication.

Train Station Days

For many years, Agricola was a busy stop on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. This railway was a very important way for people and goods to travel across the country. Having a train station meant Agricola was connected to other towns and cities, helping the community grow.

The Post Office

Agricola also had its own post office for a long time, from 1875 until 1974. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. For a while, the post office was even called "Hardpan" before it became known as Agricola.
