Ahlefeld facts for kids
Ahlefeld was a small town, also known as a municipality, located in Germany. It was part of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
On 1 March 2008, Ahlefeld joined together with another nearby municipality called Bistensee. They formed a brand new, larger municipality named Ahlefeld-Bistensee. This kind of merger happens when smaller towns decide to combine their resources and administration.
What is a Municipality?
A municipality is like a local government area. It's a town or a small group of villages that manage their own local affairs. This includes things like:
- Local roads
- Schools
- Public services
When Ahlefeld was a municipality, it had its own local council and mayor. They made decisions for the people living there.
The Merger with Bistensee
The decision to merge Ahlefeld with Bistensee created a new, larger community. This often happens to make local government more efficient. It can also help share costs and improve services for everyone. The new municipality, Ahlefeld-Bistensee, now covers the area that both towns used to manage separately.
