Early Life and Education
Ahmed Dogan was born in a village called Pchelarovo. He studied philosophy at Sofia University. He finished his studies in 1981. In 1986, he earned a higher degree. His research was about the idea of "symmetry."
Founding a Political Party
Ahmed Dogan founded the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party. This party is a liberal group. It aims to represent the interests of the Turkish minority in Bulgaria.
A Public Incident
On January 19, 2013, something unexpected happened while Dogan was speaking. A person named Oktay Enimehmedov ran onto the stage. He approached Dogan very closely. Dogan quickly reacted and grappled with the person. Security guards and other people then helped. The person was stopped and later arrested.
Changes in the Party
In 2024, there was a disagreement within the DPS party. This involved two co-chairmen, Delyan Peevski and Dzhevdet Chakarov. Ahmed Dogan supported Dzhevdet Chakarov. Before the October 2024 election, the party split into two groups. One group was called DPS – New Beginning, led by Peevski. The other was the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms, led by Chakarov.
The courts decided that Peevski had registered his group first. So, the original DPS name was used by Peevski's group for the election. In July 2025, a court in Sofia made a final decision. The court ruled that Delyan Peevski was the only chairman of DPS. This decision also meant that Ahmed Dogan was officially no longer part of the party.
