Ahmed Fathy's Club Career
Starting Out: Ismaily and Sheffield United
Ahmed Fathy was born in Banha, Egypt. He began his career playing as a midfielder and right-back for Ismaily SC. With Ismaily, he helped them win the 2001–02 Egyptian Premier League, which is Egypt's top football league.
In early 2007, an English club called Sheffield United offered to buy Fathy. After some talks, Fathy signed a contract with them on January 24, 2007. He made his first appearance in the Premier League on February 10, 2007, coming on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur. He also started a full game against Liverpool. However, he didn't play many games for Sheffield United.
Playing for Al Ahly
After his time in England, Ahmed Fathy joined Al Ahly, another big Egyptian club, on September 10, 2007. He had only played three games for Sheffield United. Because of transfer rules, Al Ahly couldn't register him to play right away. So, they sent him on a temporary loan to Kazma in Kuwait. A loan means a player plays for another team for a short time. Fathy played regularly for Kazma and scored four goals.
Fathy finally played his first game for Al Ahly on March 10, 2008. He quickly became a key player in the middle of the field. Later, he moved to play as a right-back, where he continued to be a regular starter for the team.
Loan to Hull City
In January 2013, Fathy went on loan again, this time to Hull City, an English team in the Championship (the league below the Premier League). He joined them until the end of the 2012–13 season. Fathy played his first game for Hull City on February 16, 2013, as a substitute in a match they won 1–0.
Later Club Teams
Fathy left Al Ahly in June 2014 when his contract ended. He then joined Umm Salal in Qatar in August 2014.
In 2015, Fathy returned to Al Ahly. He continued to play for them until April 2020, when he decided to leave the club again.
On April 11, 2020, Pyramids FC announced that Fathy would join their team. He played for Pyramids FC until he announced his retirement from football on September 21, 2024.
Ahmed Fathy's International Career

Ahmed Fathy became the youngest player ever to play for the Egyptian national team when he was just 17 years old in 2001. This was in a game against South Africa. He was chosen for the national team even before he played for his club's main team, Ismaily SC.
Fathy was also part of the Egyptian youth team that won the African Youth Cup in 2003. He played in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2003 as well. At one point, he was playing for Egypt's Under-20, Under-23, and senior teams all at the same time!
He was a key player for the Egypt squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2006. They won by beating Ivory Coast in a penalty shootout. He also helped Egypt win the Africa Cup of Nations again in 2008 and 2010. In the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, he was even named the "fair player" of the tournament.
In May 2018, Ahmed Fathy was chosen to be part of Egypt's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. This is the biggest football tournament in the world.
