Aileen Rose Dent (1890 – 1978) was a talented Australian artist. She was especially known for painting portraits of people. One of her most famous paintings is a portrait of the Australian pilot, Jean Burns.
About Aileen Dent
Aileen Dent was born in 1890 in a town called Deniliquin, in New South Wales, Australia. She loved art from a young age.
From 1909 to 1916, Aileen studied at the National Gallery of Victoria Art School in Melbourne. This was a very important art school. Here, she learned many skills to become a great painter.
Her Art Shows and Awards
Aileen Dent often showed her paintings at the Atheneum Gallery in Melbourne. People could go there to see her work.
She was also chosen many times as a finalist for the Archibald Prize. This is a very important art award in Australia for portrait painting. Being a finalist means her work was among the best in the country.
Her paintings were also part of a special art show. This show was called Australian Women Artists, One Hundred Years 1840 - 1940. It celebrated the work of women artists in Australia.
The National Gallery of Australia owns one of Aileen Dent's portraits. It is a painting of Dame Elizabeth Couchman.
Aileen Dent passed away in 1978 in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales.
