Aino Kukk (born Prits, September 10, 1930 – November 7, 2006) was a talented Estonian chess player. She is best known for winning the Estonian Women's Chess Championship in 1955.
Aino Kukk's Life and Chess Career
Aino Kukk was born on September 10, 1930, in Raasiku Parish, Estonia. She finished her secondary school studies in Tallinn in 1950.
Becoming a Chess Champion
After World War II, Aino Kukk became one of the strongest women chess players in Estonia. She played in the Estonian Women's Chess Championship almost 30 times! This shows how dedicated and skilled she was.
She won several medals in these important championships:
- She earned a gold medal in 1955, becoming the champion.
- She won two silver medals in 1953 and 1968.
- She also took home a bronze medal in 1952.
Aino Kukk also proved her skill by winning the Estonian Sports Association «Jõud» Chess Championships for women four times.
Work Outside of Chess
From 1959 to 1992, Aino Kukk worked at the Estonian Institute of Industrial Projects, called «Eesti Tööstusprojekt». She started as a laboratory assistant and later became a chief engineer.
Aino Kukk passed away on November 7, 2006.
