History of Ainon Church
How the Church Started
The story of Ainon Church began with a famous preacher named Christmas Evans. He was working in a nearby town called Caerphilly between 1826 and 1828. During this time, he often visited Tongwynlais. He would give his sermons at the Lewis Arms, which was a local public house.
Even though Christmas Evans was only in the area for a short time, his preaching had a big impact. Because of his work, Ainon Church was officially started in 1828.
The Church Building
The building you see today was constructed a few years later, in 1832. This makes it the oldest church building in the whole village of Tongwynlais!
Over the years, the church has been looked after. In 2003, the inside of the church was updated and made more modern. Ainon Baptist Church is still a very active and important part of the Tongwynlais community today.
