Air Nostrum is a Spanish airline that flies to many places. It's also known as Iberia Regional. This airline is based in Valencia, Spain. In 2023, Air Nostrum joined with another airline called CityJet. Together, they formed a big company named Strategic Alliance of Regional Airlines (SARA).
Air Nostrum is connected to the Oneworld group of airlines. It flies to 51 different places, both inside Spain and to other countries. It also offers special charter flights. Its main home base is Valencia Airport. It also has important hubs at Barcelona–El Prat Airport and Madrid–Barajas Airport. Air Nostrum also helps Brussels Airlines with some flights. It is also partly owned by Iryo, a fast train service in Spain. Iryo started running in November 2022.
The Story of Air Nostrum
Air Nostrum started on May 23, 1994. Its first flights took off on December 15 of that same year. When it first started, the airline offered full meals on all its regular flights.
In early 2008, Air Nostrum changed its 'regional business class' section. Now, the plane's cabin is split into separate business and economy areas. This is similar to how many other big airlines work. If you fly in economy, you can buy drinks and snacks during your flight.
In February 2012, Air Nostrum had to make some big changes. This was because fuel prices went up and they were earning less money. They had to reduce their workforce for two years. About 1,800 workers were affected. They also stopped using 15 Bombardier CRJ200 planes. Many routes that were losing money were also stopped.
In March 2014, some business people from Valencia invested in the company. This included Carlos Bertomeu, who was the CEO at the time. This investment helped the airline.
In September 2017, Air Nostrum wanted to start a high-speed train service. They planned to run trains from Madrid Atocha to Gare de Montpellier-Saint-Roch in France. They wanted to use Class 100 trains. The plan was approved in September 2018. However, they could not get the trains, so the service never started.
On July 17, 2018, Air Nostrum and CityJet from Ireland announced they would join together. Their goal was to become the biggest regional airline in Europe. They planned to keep their names separate.
In June 2022, Air Nostrum made a special order. They reserved ten Hybrid Air Vehicles Airlander 10 airships. These airships are planned to start flying in 2026. In August 2023, Air Nostrum decided to order even more. They doubled their reservation from ten to twenty Airlander 10 airships.
In October 2023, Air Nostrum officially finished its merger with CityJet. Air Nostrum now owns 80% of the new company. This new company is called Strategic Alliance of Regional Airlines (SARA).

Incidents and Accidents
Sometimes, even with all the safety checks, things can go wrong. Here are a couple of incidents involving Air Nostrum planes:
- On January 17, 2003, an Air Nostrum Fokker 50 plane went off the end of the runway. This happened at Melilla Airport. The plane crashed into a fence and broke into two main parts. Nine passengers had minor injuries.
- On January 24, 2006, Air Nostrum flight IB 8665 had a problem. The plane, a Bombardier CRJ200, landed without its landing gear fully down. This is called a belly landing. It happened at Barcelona El Prat Airport. Two of the forty passengers had small injuries when they got off the plane. Experts later found that the pilot made a mistake.
