History of Air Nostrum
Air Nostrum started on May 23, 1994. Their first flights took off on December 15 of the same year. In the past, they offered full meals on all their flights.
Around 2008, the airline changed its cabins. They used to have a "regional business class." Now, flights have separate business and economy sections. This is like what many other big airlines do. If you fly economy, you can buy drinks and snacks on board.
In February 2012, Air Nostrum faced some challenges. Fuel prices went up, and their income went down. Because of this, they had to reduce their workforce for two years. They also stopped using 15 Bombardier CRJ200 planes. Many routes that were losing money were also stopped.
On March 31, 2014, some business people from Valencia invested in the company. This included Carlos Bertomeu, who was the CEO at the time. This investment brought about 25 million euros into the company.
In September 2017, Air Nostrum wanted to run high-speed train services. They planned to go from Madrid Atocha to Gare de Montpellier-Saint-Roch in Southern France. They planned to use AVE Class 100 trains.
On July 17, 2018, Air Nostrum and CityJet from Ireland announced a merger. They planned to become the biggest regional airline in Europe. Even after merging, they would keep their own names. The merger was completed in 2023.
In June 2022, Air Nostrum made a special order. They reserved ten Hybrid Air Vehicles Airlander 10 airships. These airships are expected to start flying in 2026. In August 2023, Air Nostrum ordered even more. They doubled their reservation from ten to twenty Airlander 10 aircraft.
