Airhill, Ohio facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Airhill is a small, quiet place in Montgomery County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

History of Airhill

Early Days and the Post Office

Airhill has a short but interesting history. Back in 1865, a post office was opened there. At first, it was called "Air Hill," with two separate words. This post office was important because it helped people send and receive letters and packages.

Name Change and Closure

In 1895, the name of the post office was officially changed to "Airhill," becoming one word. However, the post office didn't stay open for very long after that. It closed its doors just five years later, in 1900.

The Railroad Connection

Even though it was a small community, Airhill was also home to a railroad station. Railroads were a very important way to travel and transport goods in those days. Having a station meant Airhill was connected to other places, making it easier for people and products to move in and out of the area.
