Aisake Ó hAilpín's Sports Journey

Playing for Na Piarsaigh

Aisake Ó hAilpín played club hurling and Gaelic football. He played with the Na Piarsaigh club. This club is located on the north side of Cork city. He didn't win many major titles in his younger years.

By 2004, Ó hAilpín joined the Na Piarsaigh senior hurling team. That year, the club reached the final. It was the final of the county senior championship. This was their first final in almost ten years. Their opponents were Cloyne. The first half was very close. Cloyne had a small lead at halftime. However, Na Piarsaigh played amazingly in the second half. They won the game 0–17 to 0–10. Ó hAilpín was the top scorer with five points. This was his first and only county championship medal.

Time with Carlton Football Club

After winning the county championship in 2004, Ó hAilpín went to Australia. He decided to try Australian rules football. He joined the Carlton Football Club in Melbourne. His brother Setanta also played there.

Ó hAilpín was placed on Carlton's rookie list in 2005. This meant he was a developing player. His progress was slow. In 2005, he played in the reserves team. In 2006, he was in and out of the main team.

In 2007, he was still on the rookie list. This was his last year allowed on the rookie list. He played mainly as a ruckman for the Bullants, Carlton's reserve team. People thought he would soon join the senior team. But then he got a groin injury. This ended his season. Carlton announced they would move him to the senior list for 2008. However, Ó hAilpín did not play any senior games. He left the club at the end of 2008.

Playing for Cork Senior Team

In February 2009, Ó hAilpín came back to Ireland. He played in some practice games. He tried out for both the Cork football and hurling teams. He eventually joined the hurling team for the year. Ó hAilpín started a championship game against Tipperary. He was even named "man of the match." However, he did not play as well in other games. He announced he would return to Australian rules football at the end of 2010.

Continuing Australian Rules Football
