A Rapper's Journey Begins
Ak'Sent had a challenging childhood. Her father, Charles Johnson, was an aspiring rapper who passed away when she was only four years old. Because her mother, Magali Padilla, had trouble supporting her alone, Ak'Sent went to live with her grandparents in South Central, Los Angeles.
Growing up, Ak'Sent learned more about her father's dream of being a hip hop artist. She decided she wanted to continue his legacy. Even though rap music was not allowed in her grandparents' home, she was determined to follow her passion.
Getting a Record Deal
Ak'Sent started her career by joining R&B girl groups and training as a dancer with the famous Debbie Allen. Her hard work paid off. At just 16 years old, she performed at a showcase and was signed by Capitol Records.
At Capitol, she worked with the production team The Jugganauts. She was excited by their Caribbean-style beats and began writing dancehall-style songs. One of these songs was "Zingy," which featured the famous artist Beenie Man, whom Ak'Sent was a big fan of.
Ak'Sent wants her music to be positive. She avoids making violence seem cool and focuses on telling stories through her lyrics.

Ak'Sent has released two studio albums and is currently working on new music. Her songs often mix hip hop with R&B and dancehall sounds.
