Akaji Maro (麿 赤児, Maro Akaji, born February 23, 1943) is a famous Japanese artist. He is known for his unique dance style called butoh, for directing plays, and for acting in many films.

Akaji Maro was born in 1943 in a town called Sakurai, Nara in Japan.
Akaji Maro's Career
In 1972, Maro started his own dance group. It is called Dairakudakan Temputenshiki (大駱駝艦・天賦典式, The Great Camel Battleship). This group performs butoh, which is a special kind of Japanese dance theater. Dairakudakan has become very famous all over the world.
Maro also began acting in movies in 1980. He has appeared in more than 40 films, showing his talent as an actor.
Personal Life
Akaji Maro has two sons. Both of them are also involved in the film industry. His son Tatsushi Ōmori is a film director, and his other son, Nao Ōmori, is an actor.
