Akbar Golpayegani (Persian: اکبر_گلپایگانی; born January 30, 1934 – died November 4, 2023), often called Golpa (Persian: گلپا), was a very famous Iranian traditional singer. He was known for his beautiful voice and his important role in Persian music.

Life of a Music Star
Early Life and Training
Akbar Golpayegani was born in Tehran, a big city in Iran. He started learning music in 1951 when he was about 17 years old. When he was 14, he first sang in a choir, which is a group of singers. By age 15, he joined the Nizam School Music Association. This helped him develop his musical talents early on.
Becoming Famous
Golpayegani became widely known in 1956. He started performing on a popular musical show called Radio Golha. This show was on the National Iranian Radio and Television. He continued to be a part of this show until 1979. His performances helped many people discover his unique singing style.
International Recognition
Akbar Golpayegani was the first Iranian singer to perform outside of Iran. In 1956, he took part in an international festival. This event was supported by Unesco, an organization that promotes peace and culture. This showed his talent to a global audience.
In 1969, one of his songs was featured in a movie. His performance of "Poem of Saadi" was part of the film Medea. This film was directed by the famous Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini. Later, in 1984, he received a special award. The University of Tehran gave him an honorary doctorate. This is a special title given to people who have achieved great things.
Later Years
Akbar Golpayegani passed away on November 4, 2023. He was 89 years old. He was buried in the artists' section of the Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in Tehran. His music continues to be loved by many.
