Alfred "Aki" Schmidt (born September 5, 1935 – died November 11, 2016) was a famous German football player and later a manager. He is best known for his time playing for Borussia Dortmund.

A Football Star for Borussia Dortmund

Aki Schmidt played as an attacking midfielder. This means he was a player who helped both defend and score goals. He played for Borussia Dortmund from 1956 to 1968. During this time, he helped his team win some big trophies!

In 1965, his team won the German Cup. This is a major football competition in Germany. The next year, in 1966, they won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. This was a huge win because it was a European competition, meaning they were champions against teams from all over Europe!
