The Start of a Musical Journey
Early Days as a DJ
Akil's music career began when he was just sixteen years old. He started as a DJ, playing live music at Club Prosperity, a popular spot in his neighborhood. This early experience helped him learn about music and entertain crowds.
Building a Sound System
As he grew, Akil teamed up with friends to create a very successful DJ group. They called themselves Associate Degree Sound System. This group became well-known across Trinidad and Tobago for their exciting performances.
From Clubs to Radio
Akil's talent soon caught the attention of radio stations. He got his big break as an on-air personality at 96.1wefm. This station is one of Trinidad and Tobago's top urban radio stations, and it helped 5Star Akil reach even more listeners.
Becoming a Soca Star
Releasing Hit Songs
After a successful career as a DJ, 5Star Akil decided to focus on singing Soca music. In 2012, he released his first major Soca song called Partier. It was a big hit and showed everyone his skills as a singer. Two years later, in 2014, he released another popular song, To Meh Heart.
A Special Win with Steelpan
In 2016, 5Star Akil made history in Trinidad and Tobago. His song, Different Me, played a key role in helping the famous steelpan group, Desperadoes Steel Orchestra, win a major competition. This competition is called the National Panorama title. It was a huge moment because Desperadoes had not won this championship for 16 years! The song was written by Jovan James and produced by Nikholai Greene.
First Mixtape Release
In 2017, 5Star Akil released his first official collection of songs, known as a mixtape. He titled this debut mixtape HERO.
