Akylbek Japarov (born September 14, 1965) is a politician from Kyrgyzstan. He served as the head of the government, known as the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, from 2021 to 2024. He took over this important role from Ulukbek Maripov. Akylbek Japarov also worked as the Head of the Presidential Administration under President Sadyr Japarov.
Before becoming the Chairman of the Cabinet, Japarov had a background in economics and engineering. He held several jobs related to the economy in earlier governments. For example, he was the Minister of Economy and Finance from 2005 to 2007.

Early Life and Education
Akylbek Japarov was born on September 14, 1965. His birthplace was Balykchy, in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan. His father, Usenbek Japarov, was a doctor, and his mother, Begayim Sarynzhieva, was an engineer.
Japarov finished secondary school in 1981. He was a very active student leader during his school years. In 1986, he graduated with high honors from Kyrgyz Technical University. He earned a degree in civil engineering. Later, in 2002, Japarov also got a degree in Financial Tax Systems and Management of Organizations. This second degree was from the Bishkek Academy of Finance and Economics.
From 1987 to 1991, Japarov taught at Kyrgyz Technical University. He was very involved in student life and activities at the university.
Political Journey
Japarov started his political career in July 1992. He worked in the presidential administration, focusing on youth policy. In 1993, he became a leader in the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan. He held this position until 1995.
From 1995 to 1996, he worked as an assistant to the First Vice Prime Minister. He then worked for the National Commission for the Securities Market. Later, he joined the State Tax Inspectorate.
From 2000 to 2005, Japarov was a member of the Legislative Assembly. This was the upper house of the Supreme Council, which is like the country's parliament. He was part of a group called the Union of Democratic Forces. He also led the committee that dealt with taxes and customs.
After a big change in government in 2005, Japarov became the Minister of Economy and Finance. He held this job until 2007. From 2007 to 2009, he served as the Minister of Economic Development and Trade. He also held the role of First Vice Prime Minister from 2009 to 2010.
In June 2021, President Sadyr Japarov appointed Akylbek Japarov. He became the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Economy and Finance. On October 12, 2021, he became the acting Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers. The very next day, he was officially appointed to this top government position.
Akylbek Japarov's time as Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers ended on December 16, 2024. He was replaced by Adylbek Kasymaliev.
Family Life and Writings
Akylbek Japarov is married. He has two daughters, named Saadat and Azhar. He also has a son, named Maksat.
He has written several books. These include Taxes: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow and Strategies for Economic Modernization. He also wrote Modernization of the Kyrgyz Economy. Japarov can speak Kyrgyz, Russian, English, and Turkish.

Japarov has received several awards for his work.
