Al-Badd Museum for Olive Oil Production facts for kids
The al-Badd Museum for Olive Oil Production (Arabic: متحف البد), also known as Badd Giackaman Museum (Arabic: متحف بد جقمان), is a special place in the center of Bethlehem. It's located in the State of Palestine, very close to the famous Church of the Nativity.
This museum shows how olive oil was made long ago. It has many old items and tools that teach us about the history of olive oil production. You can see how people used olive oil for many things, like lighting lamps, making medicine, cooking food, creating soap, and even for cosmetics.
The building where the museum is located is very old, dating back to the late 1700s. Between 1998 and 2000, the museum building was carefully repaired and made new again. This work was done by the Department of Antiquities of the State of Palestine, working with the UNDP and the Greek Orthodox Society.
In April 2002, during a difficult time for the area, the museum was entered by Israeli forces. Later, on May 25, 2006, the museum's main gate was damaged, and some old pottery jars, flasks, and office supplies inside were broken.
